Case 1: Planning

Purpose

The purpose of mikeschultzw8training.com is to provide a place of reference for my personal training clients. Having worked multiple personal training jobs in the past, a continuous problem seems to be giving my clients a reference to remind them how to do exercises that I have given them on their training sheets. By providing the web site for them, they will be able review exercises on their own and gain more understanding. For me this will mean less time on the phone and thus being able to take on more clients. In addition, this site will provide a way for me to enhance word of mouth advertising. Many clients have started working with me because their friends do. By providing the site as something they can look into I will be able to advertise my knowledge and qualifications.

Audience

There are two main audiences that I am trying to target with the site. The first and highest priority is my personal training clients. Just as was mentioned above, the site is going to be mainly focused as a resource for them to answer questions they have about exercises. The second audience of most importance is potential clients. The cite needs to portray my knowledge and the benefits of hiring me as a personal trainer.

Content

The content of the site is going to be primarily instruction on lifts. That is generally going to be the area that I would like to focus on. In the lifts section there will be an index of workouts. Those will link to a page that has buttons for all the exercises my clients would do during the workout. When clicked they will query the database for an image of the exercise as well as a detailed description of the exercise. On the frequently asked questions page I am going to put a series of the most commonly asked questions by clients as well as answers to questions submitted to the web site. In addition to this I will add answers to questions submitted on the form in the “Send me your questions” page of the site. On the weight loss portion I will provide tips for cardiovascular exercise as well as diet advice and information. The “Send Me Your Questions” page will just be a form for clients to enter their names and questions.

Samples Of Content

From Frequently Asked Question page:

Q: I'm a little new to lifting weights, how much should I lift if I want to bulk up?

A: On each exercise you do I would suggest doing your first set or two with a light weight for 20 to 30 repetitions. This will warm up the muscles and joints being used making the more playable and less prone to injury. Next I would do three working sets with a weight heavy enough that you fail before you get to twelve repetitions but not so heavy that you cannot do six. This will work your type 2-b fast twitch muscle fibers which hold the most potential for growth.

From Lifts page:

Crunches: lay on your back with your feet planted flat on the floor, knees bent. Find a point on the ceiling and keep focused on it through the entire motion of the lift. Place your hand behind your head and crunch up, lifting your shoulders off of the ground. Hold for a split second and then bring your shoulders back to floor.

From Weight Loss Page:

Cardio is interesting because it is probably the one thing that most people do wrong. With cardio, the minimum you will want to do is 45 minutes at a time. Your spends the first twenty minutes that you are doing cardio burning up food that you have eaten that and the day before then your body switches to burning stored fat for energy. If you can go for an hour or an hour and fifteen minutes that would even be better. To put it into perspective: 30 minutes of cardio = 10 minutes your body is actually burning fat; 45 minutes of cardio = 25 minutes of fat burning; 1 hour of cardio = 40 minutes your body is burning fat. Obviously a little more time on cardio will go a long way.

Database Implementation

As mentioned earlier, I want to put the lift images and instructions in a database. By doing this I will make it so that I don’t have to create a separate page for each lift. It will also make it so that I can put new lift info into the database.

Dynamic Components

At this point, one dynamic function that I want is a page for people to post questions that I can respond to. This will be a form that shows up on the “Send My Your Questions” page. Below this form the questions will be presented as well as my responses.

Style

I would like to follow a style similar to Muscular developments web site but with my own touch. Generally I would like images to be grey scale. The background will be black and the text will white. I want a logo image on the top left corner that will appear on each page as well as, if I can, a grey bar running down the left side. For main page headings I want to use h1 and for subheading on exercises I want to use h6.
